Healthy Homework - Protein versus Carbs
So did everyone do their homework?
We keep hearing "health experts" say - "you have to eat carbs" and also say to limit your protein intake - especially red meat.
So your homework was to find out :
1. What parts of the body are made up of protein and amino acids and what are proteins and amino acids used for in the body?
2. What parts of the body are made up of carbohydrates and what are carbohydrates used for in the body?
The answers are
1. Almost all parts of your body require protein and amino acids

2. The experts will tell you that you need carbohydrates for fuel. Problem is - we can eat protein and some of the protein can be converted for fuel and the rest used by the body for building and reparing the body. Granted carbohydrates may be a good idea for olympic atheletes and marathon runners that burn 10,000 calories per day. But how many of us are olympic atheletes?
Actually the best reason to eat carbohydrates are the Carotenoids found in fruit and vegetables. Carotenoids are what make you healthy from eating veggies. Of course avoid starch and high sugar fruits and veggies and always eat them natural, whole, and unprocessed.

But assuming that we can get our vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids from good, high quality supplements - is there a need to eat carbohydrates?
Some people argue we need to eat fiber to keep you regular. But if you talk to people that don't eat fiber - they tell you - you don't need more fiber - what you need is more magnesium and potassium - instead of fiber.
Some people, especially women - just can't eat meat all day, every day. Its too boring they say.
Some "health experts" - especially "registered dieticians" argue that "YOUR BRAIN HAS TO HAVE CARBS!" But they can never tell you why, and they can never explain how your brain functions better when you stop eating carbohydrates!
I don't see a need to eat veggies. Yes, it is limiting - what some people call boring. But there are a lot of exciting things I don't do that are bad for me - like smoking, drinking a lot of alcohol, drugs, eating desserts all day, etc.
My point is not to lecture you on being more holy - my point is that the "health experts" have it all backwards.
Instead of eating mostly carbohydrates and limiting your protein and fat - you should be eating mostly protein and fat - and limiting your carbohydrates.
This is obvious to anyone that has been following the trends of how our diet has changed over the last 40 years and connected that to how our health has changed over the last 40 years,
So instead of worrying if you are eating too much protein - worry about eating too much carbohydrate.
Class dismissed!

Very interesting. One doctor I worked with ran in marathons. He said once he converted to an all meat diet (yes, ) carbs) he never hit the wall. He felt like he could run forever.
The only problem is getting meat with out MSG, ammonia, or any other chemicals.
Chemical free meat is a bit more expensive. It is not just carbs but perhaps the combination of excess carbs and the MSG that are added to the meat we do eat that is responsible for the disease and weight gain pandemic.
Oh yes, one other thing about the all meat diet. Once eating becomes a bit boring, it seems that less food is consumed and the cost goes way down, actually to cheaper than eating carbs.
Again, very interesting.
Good health to you.
